Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures announces name change

LAWRENCE – The Kansas Board of Regents recently approved a name change for a University of Kansas languages department in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.

The Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures will now be called the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Languages & Literatures. The department houses six minor concentrations, three Bachelor of Arts tracks, a Master of Arts and two doctoral concentrations.

"The new designation follows closely in the footsteps of the national organization of our profession,” said Ani Kokobobo, department chair and associate professor. “Our department has already been intellectually trending toward Eurasia in both our language as well as literature and culture offerings. The department regularly offers nine languages, and while some of these languages are Slavic, others are simply culturally significant to our regional area of study.”

The KU Department of Slavic and Eurasian Languages & Literatures houses nine languages: Russian, Old Church Slavonic, Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian, Polish, Slovene, Ukrainian, Czech, Turkish and Persian/Dar/Tajik/Farsi.
